Are There Beer Flavors Specifically Crafted With Women in Mind?

Ever wondered if beer companies secretly design flavors just for us ladies?

I’ve heard this question a lot lately: "Are certain beers made specifically for women’s taste buds?" Honestly, as someone who's spent way too much time obsessing over yeast strains and flavor combinations (I mean, hello, I founded a beer brand named Hurray’s Girl Beer), I think it's time we had a little heart-to-heart about this. The truth is—sort of, but not exactly.

Beer Isn’t Just a “Guy Thing” Anymore

If you've spent time anywhere near craft beer lately, you already know women are killing it at beer festivals, breweries, and backyard BBQs alike. The old stereotype—that we somehow prefer sweeter, simpler beers—is pretty outdated. Sure, some of us love a refreshing blueberry lavender or a zesty pineapple yuzu, but I've got plenty of girlfriends who swear by double IPAs and dark stouts too. And trust me, they’ll definitely remind you that they don’t drink them to impress any dudes.

But that raises an interesting point: do women actually taste beer differently? According to some fascinating research, women tend to pick up on subtle flavors more quickly than men. Basically, we’ve got superpowered taste buds. Go figure.

Who Says Fruit Isn’t Hardcore?

There's this weird idea floating around that fruit-infused beers aren't "real beers." Let me clear this up right now: fruit beers aren't a cute trend—they’re a delicious evolution. When my team and I launched our fruit-infused lineup, I wasn't thinking, "How can I make a beer for women?" I was thinking, "How can I make beer taste amazing?" Turns out, women—and men, too—just genuinely like drinking stuff that tastes good. Crazy, right?

If you're curious, here's what I mean by delicious: our fruit-infused beer collection isn't sweet or gimmicky—it's crafted thoughtfully, flavor-first, with low calories as an added bonus.

Flavor Preferences are Personal, Not Gendered

It's tempting to say, "Oh, women love fruity, lighter beers," but the truth is way more interesting. Think about your last girl's night: did everyone sip on identical drinks? Doubt it. Some women will grab a juicy IPA, others will pick a sour, and someone will inevitably go for something dark and mysterious (the beer, not the guy at the bar).

I’ve noticed that younger drinkers—think Gen Z and Millennials—are less about stereotypes and more about what genuinely tastes great. That's why our brewery’s mission has always been: make great beer, have a laugh, and do good stuff along the way.

What Women Actually Want from Beer

Speaking from countless chats I've had, here's the big secret: women aren’t looking for "girly" beers. They want good beer, period. They also prefer breweries where they don't get mansplained the difference between hops and barley. Shocking, I know.

From personal experience (and some hilarious stories from friends), it seems the beer industry still has room to grow when it comes to creating spaces that women love. Simple stuff, like comfy seating, clean bathrooms (a must!), and bartenders who actually listen, goes a long way. And if you’ve ever been to our events, you know we’re all about real-life sipping experiences that are fun and genuinely welcoming.

Breaking the “Pink Beer” Stigma

Now, I know you’ve probably seen those overly girly marketing stunts—pink beers or bottles with glitter (seriously?). While the intention might be cute, the result often feels patronizing. Women don't need "lady-friendly" packaging. They need honest, delicious beer. That’s the philosophy behind everything we brew and sell, even our merchandise line, which screams authenticity over stereotypes.

And if you’re ever curious about how we're different from the rest—or just want to tell me your favorite beer flavor—get in touch. I genuinely want to hear from you. Seriously, tell me what you love (or hate, I can handle it).

Empowering Taste, Empowering Choices

In the end, I’m all about women making their own choices—whether it's a fruit-forward pineapple yuzu or the bitterest IPA you can find. Drink whatever makes your taste buds do a little dance. Life’s too short for boring beers, right?

And hey, next time someone questions your beer choice, just smile and say, "My palate is better than yours anyway." It’s scientifically backed, after all. (Yep, science says so.)

Cheers To That ❤️,

Ray
